Learn more about Michelle

I am currently studying a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Primary Education at the University of New England (UNE). I am completing my studies while also working in early childhood education, which gives me the opportunity to put what I am learning at university into practice every day.

What are you studying, and where?

I heard about the Fraser Foundation scholarship through information shared at my current workplace. I decided to apply because the support offered would make a meaningful difference while I continue studying and working

How did you hear about the Fraser Foundation?

Receiving a Fraser Foundation scholarship means so much to me. I feel incredibly grateful and proud to have been given this opportunity. Balancing university, work and being a mum can sometimes be challenging, so receiving this support has taken some of the pressure away and has encouraged me to keep working towards my goals. It is also really special knowing that someone believes in my education and the career I am working towards.

How does it feel to receive a Fraser Foundation scholarship?

Working with young children made me realise how important the early years are in shaping a child’s confidence, wellbeing, relationships and love of learning. I love being able to create a safe and nurturing environment where children feel loved, valued and encouraged to explore who they are. Working in early childhood education inspired me to continue studying so I can develop my knowledge, become the best educator I can be and eventually continue growing into leadership roles within the profession.

What inspired you to become an early childhood teacher?

What are the best and most challenging parts of working with young children?

The best part is watching children grow and seeing those little moments when they achieve something they have been working towards. It could be learning a new word, becoming more confident, making a friend, trying something independently or proudly showing you something they have created. Building strong relationships with children and families is also incredibly rewarding.

One of the most challenging parts is that every child is different and has their own individual needs, emotions, personalities and ways of learning. Some days require a lot of patience, flexibility and problem-solving. At the same time, those challenges are also what encourage me to continue learning and developing as an educator.

I am very thankful to the Fraser Foundation for supporting me in continuing my education. As a mum, an educator and a university student, completing my degree is something I am extremely proud to be working towards. I hope to use my studies and experience to make a positive difference in the lives of children and families and to continue developing as an educator and future leader within early childhood education. Receiving this scholarship is helping me move closer to those goals, and I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity.
