What will you be studying?
I am currently studying a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. Returning to study while working in the sector has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. My studies allow me to strengthen the practical experience I have gained through leadership and management roles, while also grounding my practice in research, theory and reflective pedagogy. I see my degree not just as a qualification, but as a way to become a more thoughtful, inclusive and responsive educator and leader.
How did you hear about the Fraser Foundation?
I heard about the Fraser Foundation through the early childhood education community and through conversations with colleagues who spoke highly of the Foundation’s genuine commitment to supporting students. As someone living and working in a rural area, opportunities like this are incredibly meaningful, as access to financial and professional support can sometimes feel limited compared to metropolitan settings.
How does it feel to be a recipient of a Fraser Foundation scholarship?
Being awarded a Fraser Foundation scholarship is incredibly humbling and affirming. It feels like recognition not only of my academic efforts, but of my commitment to the early childhood sector and to rural communities. The scholarship has eased financial pressures and allowed me to focus more fully on my studies and professional growth. More than that, it has reinforced that the work we do with children and families truly matters.
What inspired you to pursue a career in Early Childhood Education?
Growing up and living in a rural community has strongly shaped my values. I have seen firsthand how early learning services can become the heart of a community—places of connection, support and belonging for children and families. I was inspired to pursue a career as an Early Childhood Teacher so I could help create environments where every child feels seen, valued and capable, regardless of their background, ability or circumstances. Over time, this passion has grown into a desire to lead and advocate for inclusive, high-quality practice across entire services.
What is the best and most challenging parts of working with young children?
The most rewarding part of working with young children is witnessing their growth—those small, powerful moments where confidence builds, curiosity ignites, or a child feels safe enough to be themselves. Knowing that you are helping to shape a child’s sense of belonging and identity is incredibly special.
The most challenging part is also the most important: meeting the diverse and complex needs of children and families, often within limited resources. As someone in management roles, balancing leadership responsibilities with emotional labour, advocacy and regulatory demands can be challenging. However, these challenges drive my commitment to continuous learning and inclusive practice.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention?
I am deeply passionate about creating inclusive, respectful and culturally responsive early learning environments particularly in rural and regional communities. In my leadership roles, I strive to support educators, build strong partnerships with families, and ensure that every child has access to equitable learning opportunities. The Fraser Foundation scholarship is not only supporting my studies, but also strengthening my ability to give back to the sector and the communities I care so deeply about.
