What are you studying?

I am currently studying a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

How did you hear about the Fraser Foundation?

I first heard about the Fraser Foundation through my previous workplace. When I shared with my previous centre manager that I had always dreamed of studying a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, they encouraged me to look into the Foundation as a pathway to pursue my career goals.

How does it feel to be the recipient of a Fraser Foundation scholarship?

I am incredibly grateful to be a recipient of the Fraser Foundation scholarship. As a single mum, I never imagined I would have the opportunity to receive something like this. When I found out my application had been accepted, I was thrilled, and it felt like the moment I had been waiting for to finally pursue my studies.

This scholarship has made it possible for me to study at QUT while working part‑time and raising son who started his prep this year. It has also given me the confidence to continue my education at a time when I almost gave up due to the cost of living and the challenges of parenting. This support has truly changed what I believed was possible for my future.

What inspired you to pursue a career as an Early Childhood Teacher (ECT)?

I have been working in the early childhood sector for over ten years, and I have loved being part of young children’s learning journeys. Every day is different, and I get to see what children are curious about, how they learn, and how they grow.

Over the years, I have worked in multiple roles across childcare, and I have enjoyed each role. My time assisting in kindergarten classes especially inspired me. I loved teaching and learning alongside the children, and it made me want to deepen my understanding of early childhood development so I can better support them as an Early Childhood Teacher.

What are the best and most challenging parts of working with young children?

The best part of working with young children is being able to share in their learning journey. It is a privilege to see the impact I can have on their growth, confidence, and curiosity. Those moments are truly beautiful.

The most challenging part is behaviour support. Every child is unique, and responding to their needs requires knowledge, patience, and experience. Although it can be challenging, I am always eager to learn more so I can support each child in the way they need.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention?

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for this opportunity. The Fraser Foundation scholarship has given me the confidence to pursue my career without the constant worry of study costs. I am truly grateful for the support and for the chance to continue my education.
